As well as providing research-based depression and anxiety strategies for individuals, Change it therapists also run group programmes for anxiety and depression.
Rising above depression and anxiety: A mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (CBT) approach.
Has anxiety and/or depression been part of your life? Are they still? Would you like to learn a new way of dealing with distressing emotions?
TThe name of the method we use in this group is Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
It teaches skills to help recognise when anxiety and depression are around, and encourages people to take a different approach than they are perhaps used to.
With persistence and patience, participants report significant changes in how they experience themselves, others and the world.
Research into MBCT is promising especially for people who have had recurrent episodes of depression or anxiety, as the skills learned lessen the impact of “negative” emotion and provide a new way forward, so that when they experience distressing emotions (as we all do from time to time) they are less intense and less frequent than before. A mindful approach enables us to respond in a calm, clear headed way that doesn't result in depression, anxiety or stress.
